The award-winning feature film When I Saw You (Lamma Shoftak) by Palestinian Writer and Director Annemarie Jacir will have its theatrical release at VOX cinemas, Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi from July 18, 2013. The release, timed for Ramadan, sees a return to Abu Dhabi for this independent film after it premiered at Abu Dhabi Film Festival 2012 (ADFF) winning Best Arab Film in the New Horizons section.
A theatrical release is a major achievement for an independent film and Abu Dhabi film-lovers will appreciate this particularly after the support that When I Saw You has received from Abu Dhabi Film Festivals SANAD fund, for both the films development and its post-production.
In addition to its ADFF win, When I Saw You has also been Palestines official entry to the 2013 Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film and was in the Official Selection at Toronto International Film Festival. It won the NETPAC Award for Best Asian Film at Berlinale 2013, the Special Jury Prize at Cairo Film Festival 2012, the Jury Prize at Oran Arab Film Festival 2012 and the Don Quixote Award at Carthage Film Festival 2012.
The success of When I Saw You represents all of the efforts by ADFF and its SANAD fund in supporting Arab cinema said Ali Al Jabri, Festival Director. He continued: We are delighted that Abu Dhabi audiences will have the chance to see this wonderful film on the big screen once again.
