The Indian Association Sharjah (IAS) will present 40 short films in a festival to be screened this weekend, 21 and 22 September, at the IAS Community Hall.
UAE-based filmmakers will have their work screened amongst other short films in Malayalam, English and various other languages. The length of the films, documentaries and animations will range between three minutes to 40 minutes.
Malayalam film director, Syamaprasad, will attend and officially open the festival.
It is reported that Anil Ambatt, convenor of the literary wing of IAS, said: IAS is joining hands with Kerala State Chalachithra Academy (KSCA) and the Indian Consulate General in Dubai to organise this first of its kind festival outside Kerala, especially in the Arab Cultural Capital Sharjah.
He added: The emerging new technology today has enabled the common man to express his/her ideas. In this new era of filmmaking, we at the IAS are organising the film fest and we believe that people will accept the idea.
Following Keralas recent 6th International Film Festival, a selection process over two months took place between a team of professionals supported by IAS to choose the short films for this festival.
Films made locally in the UAE, which will be shown during this festival, have won accolades in Sakthi and Prerana award functions; The Wine Bottle by Biju Kottilla, Pathiru by Deeplal Raghavan, The Unidentified by Naushad, Yathramadye by Mushtaq Kariyadan, Tablet by Binujohn and One Day by Mansou Amoeba.
The event will begin with three 30-minute films on Friday morning in Sharjah.
