Director Amr Salama collaborated with emerging Egyptian rapper Ziad Zaza, marking Zaza’s inaugural venture into the realm of acting.
After making history by becoming the first-ever short film in history to open an Arab film festival and having its world premiere at the sixth edition of the El Gouna Film Festival, Amr Salama’s 60 Egyptian Pounds will be screening as part of the Arab Film Festival Rotterdam’s Arab Shorts I Program, where it will also be competing. The festival is scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 2 in the Netherlands.

The film tells the story of aspiring rapper Ziad and his family, who have endured long-term abuse from his father. When tensions escalate, Ziad decides to take drastic measures to end their suffering.
Produced by Omar Gawdat of Beatroot Records and Omar El Safi of Cinerama Films, 60 Egyptian Pounds features cinematography by Ahmed Tarek Bayoumi, editing by Ahmed Hafez, and stars trap artist Ziad Zaza alongside Tarek El-Deweri, Hamza Diab, and Rawheya Salem. MAD Solutions’ international sales agent MAD World handles global sales, while MAD Distribution manages distribution in the MENA region.
60 Egyptian Pounds — which is the first collaboration between multi-award-winning director Amr Salama and up-and-coming Egyptian rapper Ziad Zaza in his debut acting role — recently held its International premiere as part of the International Competition at the Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland.
Ziad Zaza, a prominent figure in Egypt’s rap scene, has gained a cult following with his approach to drill music since his debut album EL RAYS. His unconventional delivery and aggressive style have distinguished him in the music industry.
Amr Salama, an Egyptian filmmaker and screenwriter born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
