Actress Rooney Mara will produce the project, with Michael Mitnick writing the script.
Algerian-Italian director Luca Guadagnino, known for the Oscar-nominated Call Me By Your Name, and A Bigger Splash, will direct a new biopic on the late Hollywood star Audrey Hepburn.
The role of Hepburn will be played by Rooney Mara, who will also produce the film. Mara has been nominated for an Academy Award twice, for her work in 2011’s The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and 2015’s Carol.
It will be written by Michael Mitnick, who collaborated with Guadagnino on The Staggering Girl.
Guadagnino recently wrapped production on his upcoming romantic horror Bones and All, starring Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet. The filmmaker also co-created, co-wrote and directed the 2021 HBO miniseries We Are Who We Are.
Belgium-born British actress Hepburn starred in iconic films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, My Fair Lady, Funny Face, Sabrina and Roman Holiday. During her four-decade career, Hepburn achieved EGOT status, winning Emmy, Oscar, Tony and Grammy awards, the last of which she received posthumously. She was also a dedicated humanitarian, working with UNICEF to help children in Africa, South America and Asia and receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1992.
Hepburn’s influence and career extended beyond acting — she was a noted fashion icon, being the muse of French designer Hubert de Givenchy, and devoted a great deal of her life to charitable work.
