A new podcast is opening the curtain on the creative minds shaping Arab cinema and television. The Scenarist, launched on October 3 and hosted by writer Wael Hamdy, invites listeners behind the scenes of the Arab world’s most beloved dramas and films. The podcast kicks off with celebrated screenwriter Mariam Naoum, offering an intimate look at the struggles, inspirations and unseen moments that bring great stories to life.
Hamdy and Naoum’s partnership goes back years, beginning with the hit series Moga Harra and continuing with acclaimed projects such as Sokoot Hor and Nemra Etneen. Their collaboration has consistently delivered compelling narratives marked by emotional depth and social relevance.
Mariam Naoum stands as one of Egypt’s most influential contemporary screenwriters, known for tackling real-life issues with courage and empathy. Her celebrated works, including Wahed Sefer, Zat, Segn Al-Nesa, Bel Shamaa El-Ahmar, Wahat Al-Ghoroub, Taht El-Saytara, Khali Balak Men Zizi and Lam Shamsiya, have not only won critical acclaim but also resonated deeply with audiences, earning her a place among the region’s most respected storytellers.
Bringing over 25 years of industry experience, Wael Hamdy adds his own creative force to The Scenarist. Known for supervising the writing team of Alam Simsim, the Egyptian adaptation of Sesame Street, he has also written and developed a range of hit films and series such as 6 Ayam, Hepta, Anf W Thalath Oyoun, Baba Gah, Mafraq Turoq, Al-Tofan and Moga Harra.
