The deadline to submit films is November 30, 2022.
Aswan International Women Film Festival, which will take place from March 5 to 10, 2023, has announced an open call for film submissions for the seventh edition.
AIWFF aims to recognise female achievement in filmmaking and to teach the craft to youth through workshops and screenings. This year, the festival will honour two female filmmakers for their contributions to the film industry.
Filmmakers have been asked to apply until the end of November 2022.
Submitted films must be either written or directed by women, and may encompass any theme. The stories are expected to tackle womanhood and women empowerment, including films created by male artists. Participating films may fall into one of two categories: feature films including fiction, documentary, and animation more than sixty minutes long, or short films – within the same three genres – that are less than sixty minutes long.
In honour of her lifetime contribution to Egyptian cinema, veteran actress Sawsan Badr was awarded the Isis Achievement Award at the sixth edition. AIWFF screened 34 short and feature films in this year’s edition.
