In an historic landmark for Integrated Systems Europe (ISE), Ingram Micro’s Gerhard Schulz delivered the first keynote address on January 30, 2012, during which he exhorted integrators and distributors to add value by working together to create complete solutions.
“Systems integration capabilities and businesses will take an increasing stake in the value chain and embrace substantial business opportunities,” predicted Schulz, who is senior vice president at the IT distributor. In the keynote, entitled, ‘Blueprint for business growth in the digital age: from volume to value…and beyond into verticals’, Schulz drew on the experience of Ingram Micro in order to illustrate the way in which the AV and IT worlds can work together as the move towards a networked future continues.
Earlier in the day, Ric Birch, founder of Spectak Productions, who has worked on Olympic opening ceremonies since 1984, and will be in charge of Rio 2016, told a well-attended Dynamic Events conference that these one-off events are produced under such pressure with unbreakable deadlines. “I find people with a television background are the best,” he added. The address was followed by some lively panel discussions on light, video and sound solutions for live events.
At the Digital signage conference, DiSCO, the focus was on the shop floor. Digital signage has “huge potential” to help bricks and mortar retailers compete with e-tailers like Amazon and Asos by allowing them to better reflect the new ways in which consumers are shopping, according to Florian Rotberg of Invidis Consulting.
Rotberg delivered the keynote address at this years DiSCO conference. He pointed out that digital signage can allow shoppers to serve themselves, give them access to products that are not on the shelves and enable them to easily obtain detailed product information all characteristics of the online shopping experience.
The Future Trends Summit – the educational event which examines the key business and technology changes set to shape the pro-AV sector over the next few years – kicked off with a far-reaching presentation by industry guru and Electrosonic co-founder Robert Simpson about developments in high-resolution display technology.
All in all, ISE MD, Mike Blackman, was “full of anticipation” and said that pre-registration numbers have been phenomenal.
