Dubais strong ties and close proximity to India, along with its openness and encouragement of all things creative, sees Bollywood production teams increasingly drawn to the Emirate.
Mana Al Suwaidi, Regional Director Middle East & Sub-Continent, Dubai Tourism commented: Dubai is a vibrant hub of entertainment and is featured in the film, which is why Dubai Tourism is hosting the global premiere of Welcome Back.
As we have seen this week with the visit of the Prime Minister of India at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, this city is a place for Indian tourists and residents to enjoy unique experiences. As the Prime Minister noted, we are incredibly connected. Being only four hours away, there are over 1,700 flights a month between Dubai and Indian cities. In fact, no city in the world is more connected to India than Dubai, which is why we warmly welcome back our Indian guests time and again.
Jamal Al Sharif, Chairman of Dubai Film and TV Commission and Managing Director of Dubai Studio City added: Dubai plays an iconic role in Welcome Back, with scenes shot across the Emirate in a number of unique locations. We are very pleased that Dubai has also been chosen as the location for the premiere, which reinforces the Emirates position as a key part of the Bollywood production value chain.
“We have seen a real increase in the number of Bollywood productions selecting Dubai as the location of choice for filming, screenings and premieres over the past few years, including blockbusters such as Happy New Year and Hamari Adhuri Kahani, and look forward to continued close ties with India to support productions and films of all sizes.
Made on a budget of USD 16 million, Welcome Back is anticipated to be amongst 2015s biggest Bollywood releases. 90% of the movie has been filmed in Dubai at locations including the Jumeirah Zabeel Saray Hotel, the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, the Meydan Hotel, the Sofitel Hotel – The Palm, the Grand Hyatt Hotel, the Burj Khalifa, the Palace Hotel and the Rixos Hotel.
