The platform has partnered with MUBI and Watch platform to draw films from their content bank every week which will be then discussed on a virtual meeting platform.
UAE’s independent cinema platform Cinema Akil has announced its plans to launch a virtual cinema club CineTalks from April 29.
Every week, the platform will select a film from its watch list or from its MUBI partnership or Watch resources that will be discussed by a facilitator who will lead the discussion with a limited number of participants.
Participants will have one week to watch the film and join the conversation on the virtual meeting platform Zoom with the facilitator to exchange ideas and reflect on the themes of the film. Users will be notified via email if they have been selected to participate.
The first CineTalk will take place on April 29 at 8 pm on Zoom. The conversation will also be streamed LIVE on its YouTube channel simultaneously.
The first film to be discussed will be Ghare-Baire (1984) directed by Satyajit Ray, facilitated by Naeem Mohaiemen. In order to watch the film, users can sign up for a three-month free subscription to Mubi.
