Disney EMEA has announced the launch of two new African series, Kizazi Moto: Generation of Fire, a 10-part sci-fi anthology and a musical kids show titled Kiff from South Africa.
Speaking about the series, Orion Ross, VP Animation for Disney Europe, Middle East & Africa, said: “The short films, to be made by talent hailing from such places as Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya, South Africa, Egypt and Nigeria, will seek to answer the question ‘What does Africa’s future look like from an African perspective?’.”
Michael Paull, President, Disney+ and ESPN+, The Walt Disney Company, added: “We are bringing the work of a visionary new generation of African filmmakers to Disney+. In addition to delivering thrilling animation for fans of all ages, this collection of ten original films taps into the Afrofuturism phenomenon which was turbo-charged by Marvel’s Black Panther and reflects Disney’s ongoing commitment to partnering with the leading global talent to tell the stories of the world from fresh and authentic points of view.”
Disney Junior and Disney Plus have also picked up Kiya And The Kimoja Heroes, a pre-school series created by South African duo Kelly Dillon and Marc Dey and produced by eOne and Frog Box.
