Dubai Media City was the stepping stone to the creation of TECOM Group’s Media Cluster, which also includes Dubai Production City and Dubai Studio City and forms a complete ecosystem for more than 40,000 media and creative professionals
Dubai Media City has marked its 25th anniversary, marking a milestone in its role as a catalyst for innovation and growth across the creative industries. One of TECOM Group PJSC’s 10 specialised business districts, Dubai Media City has been central to Dubai’s evolution into a global media hub and an international magnet for talent, investment, and innovation.
Established to position Dubai as a multi-dimensional Arab media capital, Dubai Media City was designed to offer a comprehensive ecosystem supported by world-class infrastructure to accelerate industry growth. Over the past 25 years, the district has built a strong legacy of contributing to economic transformation, strengthening the knowledge economy, attracting strategic investments, and reinforcing Dubai’s standing on the global media map.
Dubai Media City also laid the foundation for TECOM Group’s broader Media Cluster, which includes Dubai Production City and Dubai Studio City. Together, the cluster forms a fully integrated ecosystem serving more than 40,000 creative professionals and hosting over 60% of Fortune 500 media companies. The cluster is home to a diverse mix of television and radio broadcasters, social media platforms, and digital content creators, and serves as a broadcasting base for news and entertainment in some of the world’s most widely spoken languages, including Arabic, English, German, Hindi, Chinese and Tagalog.
Majed Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President of Dubai Media City, Dubai Production City, and Dubai Studio City, part of TECOM Group, said: “The visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has solidified Dubai Media City’s position as a globally leading hub for the media sector. Dubai Media City has played a leading role in attracting and nurturing globally accomplished media leaders for more than 25 years, contributing to the nation’s knowledge- and innovation-based economy.
“As the region’s largest community for the media sector, Dubai Media City will continue to provide an advanced ecosystem for the industry that is supported by robust mechanisms, innovative solutions, and future-focused technologies, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global centre for the creative economy.”
Over the years, Dubai Media City has attracted many of the world’s leading media and advertising companies, including CNN, Discovery Networks, WPP, and Publicis Groupe, by offering sector-specific infrastructure and a business-friendly environment that supports sustainable growth. It is also home to prominent regional players such as ITP Media Group, which operates more than 75 brands reaching over 100m people, and OSN Group, whose streaming arm secured a strategic investment from Warner Bros. Discovery last year.
The district has played a pivotal role in supporting the growth of international media leaders, regional champions, homegrown creators and influential Arab media voices. Alongside Dubai Production City and Dubai Studio City, Dubai Media City contributed to Dubai’s recognition as the Capital of Arab Media in 2020 and 2021 by the Arab Information Ministers Council.
Dubai’s wider creative economy has continued to gain global recognition. In 2024, the emirate retained its position as the world’s leading destination for Greenfield Foreign Direct Investment in cultural and creative industries for the third consecutive year, according to the Financial Times’ fDi Markets. During the year, Dubai attracted 971 projects in the cultural and creative sectors, generating AED 18.86bn in FDI capital inflows and creating 23,517 new jobs.
Dubai Media City’s impact extends beyond infrastructure and investment to talent development and industry capability building. The district supports initiatives such as the Emirati Media Talent Pledge, signed by TECOM Group at the Arab Media Forum in 2024, aimed at nurturing local talent. It also hosts the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism’s InstaBlock Lab, launched through a partnership with Spain’s LaLiga and inaugurated in 2025, which is designed to accelerate the blocking of websites that violate intellectual property rights.
Community engagement and knowledge sharing are also central to Dubai Media City’s mission. The district connects professionals through events such as Creative Brunch and serves as Strategic Partner of Dubai Lynx, the region’s leading platform for creative excellence and effectiveness. It is also a Knowledge Partner for the Dubai Press Club’s Arab Media Outlook – Future Vision report, contributing to research and insights that shape the future of the media industry.
Innovation and entrepreneurship are further supported through in5 Media, part of TECOM Group’s start-up incubator in5. Since its launch in 2013, in5 has supported more than 1,100 start-ups, helping them raise over AED 9bn in funding. in5 Media provides access to creative workspaces, mentorship, training and networking, as well as specialised facilities such as recording studios, podcasting spaces, and green rooms at its centre in Dubai Production City. Start-ups also benefit from collaboration opportunities across TECOM Group’s ecosystem, including Dubai Studio City, which offers production offices, sets, backlots, and the region’s largest sound stages.
Dubai Media City is also home to D/Quarters, TECOM Group’s co-working platform designed for future-focused businesses. Located at the heart of Dubai Media City and Dubai Internet City, D/Quarters provides a high-tech, flexible environment that supports freelancers, entrepreneurs, and large enterprises alike.
As part of TECOM Group’s portfolio of 10 sector-focused business districts, Dubai Media City continues to play a vital role in shaping the UAE’s creative and knowledge economies. Its 25-year journey reflects both the growth of the media sector in the region and Dubai’s long-term vision to remain a global hub for creativity, innovation, and content creation.
