The film is directed, produced, and written by Mohamed El Samman.
Egyptian filmmaker Mohamed El-Samman’s feature film Rat Hole is set to screen at Nile Cinema on February 2 at 7 pm for a one-night-only showing as part of the CineMAD programme.
The film centres on a telemarketer working for a non-profit organisation as she navigates the pressures and moral dilemmas of persuading people to make donations. Driven by a desire to support her family, she gradually begins to compromise her values, exposing the darker realities behind the NGO’s operations.
Rat Hole was filmed over the course of two days during early morning hours inside an actual workplace before staff arrived, lending the film a sense of authenticity. Running for 94 minutes, the production offers a focused portrayal of working women by following a single character in one location throughout the narrative.
The film is written, produced and directed by El-Samman and stars Rana Khattab, a well-known radio presenter on Nogoum FM who has also appeared in several screen productions. The cast includes Mohamed Yorka, Kamal El-Asnawy, Hanan Helmy and other performers.
