The programme seeks to use the power of storytelling to connect with communities and inspire change at the grassroots level.
The National Council for Women (NCW) has launched the Women’s Cinema initiative under the Noura Programme, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The project, inaugurated under the patronage of First Lady Entissar El-Sisi, aims to use the power of film to spark dialogue and inspire social change among young girls and their families, according to a report by Cairo Scene.
The first phase of the initiative is being implemented in the governorates of Suhaj, Beni Suef and Dakahlia, targeting girls between the ages of 10 and 14. Through interactive film screenings followed by guided discussions, the programme seeks to promote critical thinking and open conversation around key social issues, including female genital mutilation (FGM), child marriage and broader women’s and girls’ rights.
By leveraging storytelling as a tool for awareness and empowerment, the Women’s Cinema project supports the Noura Programme’s wider mission to cultivate a new generation of confident, informed and empowered young women. Over a 40-week period, participants will also take part in workshops and activities centered on health, social development, economic empowerment and civic participation—building knowledge and resilience within their communities.
The initiative reflects Egypt’s continued commitment to advancing women’s rights and promoting gender equality through creative, community-based approaches that engage families and reshape attitudes from the ground up.
