Etisalat has increased the cost of its sports TV package beIN Sports by 40% from a monthly subscription fee of $21.2 to $29.9.
The telco claims the increased costs came from beIN Sports and insisted that the Dh90 package on its website was still available to customers.
The standard beIN package includes sports channels including the English Premier League and Champions League football.
The National newspaper quoted customers as claiming they were automatically upgraded to the new, more expensive Complete package, with more channels for childrens entertainment, films and football with little or no warning.
It is also understood that, from this month, customers have the option to subscribe to a cheaper beIN package, costing $24.5, which includes only sports channels.
