The Abu Dhabi Media Zone Authority has offered ex-Baynounah staff the opportunity to join its freelance scheme at preferential rates, BroadcastPro ME has learnt. The scheme will enable ex-Baynounah staff, who lost their jobs at the beginning of this year when the TV station was closed down, to work in Abu Dhabi as freelancers with twofour54 and its partners.
Questions have often been raised about whether the scheme allows freelancers to operate in all parts of the UAE.
The freelance scheme, which was launched in September 2009 by the Media Zone Authority, is primarily aimed at freelancers who want to work for twofour54, one of twofour54s partners, or an outside company using twofour54 intajs facilities. However, if a freelance does choose to carry out substantive work outside the free zone, they may require additional permissions.
The scheme is also designed to provide twofour54 and its partners easy access to freelance crew on a contractual basis without difficulty.
A visa or licence can be issued in as little as five to ten working days from the date a completed application is received by the freelancer application team so long as the paperwork is in order.
Short and long term freelance licences can be issued by the authority for three, six and twelve months. An accompanying residence visa enables the freelancer to live in the country legally. The minimum period of the residency visa is one year and the maximum is three years.
The three and six-month licences can both be extended to 12 month terms by paying the remainder of the 12-month licence fee.
