Under The Shadow, a Farsi language psychological horror, written and directed by BAFTA Nominated, Babak Anvari, director of Two & Two, is to begin shooting in Amman, Jordan at the end of April 2015.
Under the Shadow is set in post-revolution Tehran, during the Iran-Iraq war a period known as The War of the Cities.
As inhabitants begin to flee, a young mother remains with her six-year-old daughter, resolute about not giving up her home, but eventually imprisoned by the barrage. When an unexploded missile crashes into her apartment block, she begins to believe it has carried evil spirits into her home, and her daughter has been possessed.
The film is produced and financed by London based Wigwam Films, and is supported by the Doha Film
Institute, Creativity Capital and MENA Film. Narges Rashidi (Æon Flux, Speed Racer) leads the cast, with
Bobby Naderi (Argo, The Taqwacores) and Ray Haratian (Argo, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night) also set to appear. XYZ Films is handling North American Sales.
Todd Brown, Head of International Acquisitions at XYZ Films commented: XYZ could not be more pleased to be part of the team bringing Under the Shadow to the world. A unique film that is first and foremost incredibly frightening, it also offers a thoughtful insight into the political realities of a part of the world that has largely remained hidden. Under the Shadow will both terrify audiences and provoke conversation on some hugely important topics. It’s a gem in the making and Babak is clearly the person to make it.
