MAD Solutions has recently announced the acquisition of '60 Pounds', a film loosely based on a Ziad Zaza song.
Following its premiere at the sixth El Gouna Film Festival, where it made history as the first-ever short film to open an Arab film festival, Amr Salama’s 60 Egyptian Pounds is gearing up for its international premiere. The short film will screen as part of the International Competition at the Fribourg International Film Festival, scheduled to grace the Swiss city from March 15 to 25.
Director Amr Salama collaborated with emerging Egyptian rapper Ziad Zaza, marking Zaza’s inaugural venture into the realm of acting. The film is set to hold several screenings as part of the competition’s Shorts Programme 1 at Arena 9. Audiences can catch screenings of 60 Egyptian Pounds on March 16, 17, 21, and 22.
The storyline of 60 Egyptian Pounds revolves around aspiring rapper Ziad and his family, who endure years of torment inflicted by his abusive father. When tensions escalate to a breaking point, Ziad embarks on a journey to liberate his family from the cycle of suffering once and for all.
Produced by Omar Gawdat of Beatroot Records and Omar El Safi of Cinerama Films, the short film boasts cinematography by Ahmed Tarek Bayoumi, editing by Ahmed Hafez, and features performances by trap artist Ziad Zaza, alongside Tarek El-Deweri, Hamza Diab, and Rawheya Salem.
Ziad Zaza has carved a niche for himself in Egypt’s rap scene, gaining recognition for his innovative approach to drill music. Since the release of his debut album EL RAYS, Zaza has garnered a dedicated following, due to his unconventional delivery and bold singing style.
