The diploma aims to educate and train Jordan's new generation of filmmakers, foster talent and contribute to the local and international film industry.
The Jordan Cinema Academy’s inaugural academic year has started with an intake of 14 students (out of an applicant pool of 116) from across the Kingdom, Egypt, Syria, Palestine and Lebanon. The Academy offers a diploma in filmmaking which has been recognised as a pivotal component of the broader Creative Industries sector in Jordan’s vision for economic modernisation. A joint programme by The Royal Film Commission – Jordan and the German Jordanian University, the diploma aims to educate and train Jordan’s new generation of filmmakers, foster talent and contribute to the local and international film industry. The Academy’s curriculum has been carefully designed by a group of Jordanian and Arab experts to be a transformative full-time programme.
Accepted students are attending an academic Arabic-language programme consisting of four semesters that start with an Introduction to Filmmaking module. This year the module is being conducted by veteran Egyptian director Khaled El Hagar. The current programme is expected to end in January 2026. Upon completion of the course, students will be awarded a diploma accredited by the Jordanian Technical and Vocational Skills Development Commission.
The Jordan Cinema Academy is operating from the German Jordanian University campus, which also serves as its headquarters. The Academy premises consist of several spaces, including, a film library, an equipment and editing room, and a sound room. The faculty includes highly experienced Jordanian and Arab filmmakers, headed by Egyptian filmmaker and producer Hossamelddine Elouan.
