The movie is scheduled to feature in the Directors' Fortnight section of the festival, with three screenings planned.
Rayane Mcirdi’s short film, After the Sun, is set to make its debut at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, scheduled from May 14 to 25.
Set against the backdrop of the 1980s, After the Sun follows a young girl on her first summer journey without her newlywed sister. Amidst the nostalgic ambience of a family road trip from France to Algeria, she endeavours to reconnect with her heritage, exploring a homeland brimming with cherished memories waiting to be rediscovered.
Scheduled to feature in the festival’s Directors’ Fortnight, After the Sun is set for three screenings. The first screening is slated for Thursday, May 23 at 11:45 am at Théâtre Croisette. The subsequent screenings will take place on Friday, May 24 — one at 12 pm at Olympia/Salle 8 and another at 7 pm at Alexandre III.
Written and directed by Mcirdi, the film stars Sonia Faïdi and Bellamine Abdelmalek, with co-production by MALFAMÉ, led by Walid Bekhti, Sherianne Leïla Bekhti, and Yannis Zaccharie Bekhti. MAD Solutions is handling the sales and distribution of the film in the Arab World.
Rayane Mcirdi, a French filmmaker and visual artist born in 1993 in Asnières, brings his perspective to After the Sun. A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the École des Beaux-Arts in Angers, Mcirdi’s work weaves together elements of documentary and fiction, exploring the intricate connections between North Africa and the Parisian suburbs.
