MAD Solutions is set to present four titles at the 20th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival, which runs from November 24 to December 2.
The lineup features four feature-length films, including Déserts, Goodbye Julia, Moroccan Badass Girl, and Behind the Mountains.
Leading the MAD Solutions lineup is Faouzi Bensaidi’s Déserts, a tale that follows the escapades of Gawky associates Mehdi and Hamid, employed by a collection agency in Casablanca. Their mission takes them to remote villages in the Great South of Morocco, aiming to collect debts from overextended individuals. The film will be showcased twice on Wednesday, November 29, at 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm at PDC – Salle des Ministres, with director Faouzi Bensaidi and actors Nezha Rahil, Fahd Benchemsi, Rabi Benjhaile, and Abdelhadi Talbi in attendance.
Next in line is Mohamed Kordofani’s award-winning Goodbye Julia, unravelling the story of Mona, a retired northern Sudanese singer navigating a tense marriage. Gripped by guilt after concealing a murder, Mona attempts redemption by welcoming the deceased’s Southern Sudanese widow, Julia, and her son, Daniel, into her home. The screening is scheduled for Thursday, November 30, at 9 pm at Cinéma le Colisée, followed by an engaging Q&A session with the film’s director, Mohamed Kordofani.
Hicham Lasri’s satirical dark comedy, Moroccan Badass Girl, takes centre stage as the third offering. The film will make its world premiere on Friday, December 1, at 9 pm at the PDC – Salle des Ambassadeurs, within the festival’s Panorama of Moroccan Cinema Section. Director Hicham Lasri and the stellar cast, including Fadoua Taleb, Salah Bensalah, Malek Akhmiss, and Lamrani Karam, will be present for this momentous occasion.
Closing the lineup is Mohamed Ben Attia’s Tunisian drama, Behind the Mountains. The narrative follows Rafeek, recently released after four years in jail, as he takes his son on a journey behind the mountains to reveal an extraordinary discovery. The film is set to screen on Saturday, December 2nd, at 2 pm at the PDC – Salle des Ambassadeurs, followed by a Q&A session featuring actress Salma Zeghidi.
