Inspired by American novel 'Daddy-Long-Legs', the movie is envisaged as the first Arabic musical production.
Saudi Arabia’s MBC Group hosted the premiere of Arabic film Sukkar in Riyadh on October 11, 2023. The event was attended by cast members, journalists and leading figures from the film industry. The screening was held at Muvi Cinemas – Boulevard Riyadh City, with the stars interacting with fans and media.
Sukkar is an adaptation of the well-known 1912 epistolary novel Daddy-Long-Legs, which was made into a successful Hollywood film starring Fred Astaire in 1955.
Directed by Tamer Mahdy, the film stars Hala Turk in the lead role, alongside a host of talent from the GCC and Middle East, such as Hajar Mohammed, Moataz Hisham, Yasmina El-Abd, Wedeema Ahmed, Maria Jumaah, Mohammad Al-Harbi, Bavly Remon, and twin talents Abdullah and Omar Khaled.
Envisaged as the first Arabic-language musical production, it showcases original songs written by Heba Mashari Hamada, with the soundtrack composed by Ehab Abdel Wahed, sung by Ahmed Saad, arranged by Ahmed Tareq Yehya, and produced by Joy Music Production.
Sukkar’s production was led by Samar Akrouk, Group Director of Production at MBC group, MBC Executive Producer Lara Ghazal Nassif, MBC Producer Alaa Awada, and Executive Producer Tamer Mortada. Aroma Productions managed its cinematic execution under the supervision of MBC studios.
The movie was shot in Egypt with every filming location and set decorations custom-built for the shoot. The film was brought to life by MBC Studios with support from Egypt’s Aroma Productions, and distributed by Beirut’s Empire Entertainment. The film is set to be released across the MENA region on 12 October 2023 by Empire Entertainment.
