The partnership between MBC Studios and Almuslim is part of a broader agreement to adapt more of his novels into both television and film.
MBC Studios has announced plans to adapt the best-selling novel, ‘Jahim Al-Abirin’ (Travellers’ Hell) by renowned Saudi author Osamah Almuslim into a feature film. Acclaimed Saudi filmmaker Hana Al-Omair will direct the film and production is slated to begin in the first half of 2025, with filming taking place in the Kingdom. Almuslim will adapt the screenplay from his original work.
The partnership between MBC Studios and Almuslim is part of a broader agreement to adapt more of his novels into both television and film. In recent years, the writer has emerged as one of Saudi Arabia’s most distinguished authors, carving out a unique literary style and earning acclaim for his work in the horror, fantasy, and suspense genres. His novels have received wide praise and enjoy a strong following among readers throughout the country and across the Arab world.
Commenting on this new collaboration, Almuslim stated: “I am delighted by this partnership with MBC Group, which will mark the start of a series of projects exploring the extensive world I have built over the past decade. My work has garnered a large readership across the Arab world, and it’s exciting that they will soon be able to see their favourite stories come alive on screen.”
Filmmaker Al-Omair joined MBC Studios earlier this year as Creative Director. She noted: “I have always loved producing cinematic works adapted from other sources; projects that allow me to engage in a creative dialogue through my directing. As such, I am absolutely delighted to collaborate with Osamah Almuslim, whose broad popularity across the Arab world presents both an exciting opportunity and a challenge.
“His unique style of storytelling interweaves suspense, mystery, horror, mythical elements, and local traditions. Through this exciting new endeavour, I hope to experiment with these narrative forms and open new horizons in the Saudi cinematic landscape.”
Jahim Al-Abirin will be released in cinemas across the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the wider Arab region.
