Muvi Studios plans to support 24 films by the year 2025.
Muvi Cinemas is gearing up for increased production activities, with the commencement of filming for its upcoming Saudi film, El Senor by Aymen Khoja, scheduled to begin on December 9. The comedy, starring Yasir Alsaggaf and Bayoumi Fouad, is part of Muvi Studios’ ambitious plan to release 10 films over the next 12 months, according to a report by Screen Daily.
As part of this cinematic lineup, the Red Sea competition film Mandoob, a co-production with Telfaz 11, is set to be released on December 14. Following that, the Egyptian comedy Esabat Azeema, co-produced with Al Arabia Cinema and featuring Esaad Younes, is slated for release on January 4.
Buoyed by the box office success of its initial releases this year, namely the Saudi comedy Sattar and the Egyptian comedy Two For Rent, which accounted for 18% of the exhibitor’s total box office in the first half of 2023, Muvi Cinemas is aiming to back 24 films annually by 2025.
With 205 screens in Saudi Arabia, representing approximately 31% of the country’s total screens across 21 locations, Muvi Cinemas is making significant strides in the film exhibition landscape.
Muvi Studios, the production arm of Muvi Cinemas, focuses primarily on commercial films, with a predominant emphasis on comedies from Saudi Arabia and Egypt. The studio plans to fully finance the majority of films on its slate, with an average budget of $2m.
In a strategic move to enhance its production capabilities, Muvi Studios recently appointed Fouad Alkhateeb as the head of production. The company collaborates with external producers to bring its diverse film projects to fruition.
