Borg is alleged to have made several discriminatory comments that were recorded.
Several senior executives involved in the Neom megacity project are facing serious allegations of inappropriate behaviour and racism towards staff at various construction sites.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, evidence including recorded phone calls has surfaced, revealing that multiple executives made discriminatory remarks against employees.
Among the reported incidents is one involving Wayne Borg, Managing Director of Neom Media Industries. He allegedly made a disturbing comment following the deaths of three manual workers. He stated: “A whole bunch of people die so we’ve got to have a meeting on a Sunday night.” Borg is also accused of derogatory remarks about South Asian migrant workers.
Borg has been a prominent advocate for the media sector within Neom since its inception in 2019, frequently representing the project at industry events and panels.
In light of these allegations, Michael Lynch, the Arts and Culture Executive, has been appointed as the Acting Sector Head for Media at Neom. This appointment comes as other top executives are under scrutiny for alleged racism and inappropriate workplace conduct.
“Michael Lynch has assumed the role of Acting Sector Head for Media, in addition to his existing responsibilities as the Sector Head of Entertainment and Culture,” stated a representative from Neom.
In response to the allegations, a spokesperson for Neom stated: “Any allegations of wrongdoing and misconduct are thoroughly investigated. If any wrongdoing is substantiated, we take appropriate action.”
