The film is produced by Telfaz11, the same production company behind the original series 'Alkhallat'.
Netflix has released the Saudi Arabian feature Alkhallat+, a satirical suspense film based on the hit online show Alkhallat, which was first released in 2017 and received more than 1.5bn views across YouTube and social media.
This movie marks a significant step forward for Saudi cinema, as it is the first-ever Saudi film to be produced and streamed on Netflix.
The feature is one of the first productions to come down the pipeline under an eight-picture deal with Saudi Arabian studio Telfaz11, signed in November 2020.
Alkhallat+ presents four tales from modern-day Saudi Arabia with a range of characters from different social classes as well as from different sides of the line of morality. It is the theme of deception, deceit, and consequence, which is not always equal to the crimes, that brings these all together.
“The film will feature four exciting comeback stories of social deception and trickery in four unlikely places, bringing the best of this beloved Saudi show to life,” said Netflix.
Fahad Alammari directs an ensemble cast featuring stand-up comedian Fahad Albutairi, actors Sohayb Godus and Ismail Alhassan, Ziyad Alamri, Mohammed Aldokhei, Ibraheem Alkhairallah, Abdulaziz Alshehri, and Ibrahem Al Hajjaj.
Netflix celebrated the world premiere of AlKhallat+ at the Gala Theatre, Red Sea International Film Festival, with a full house with over 1000 attendees.
