The 10-day festive film programme is a celebration of classic adventures and modern animated favourites, designed to spark joy and nostalgia.
Msheireb Properties has confirmed the return of Baraha Cinema for its fourth edition, reviving a long-standing outdoor film tradition in the heart of the city. Running from 25 December to 3 January 2026, the seasonal programme will once again transform Barahat Msheireb into an open-air cinema, featuring family-friendly films, festive activities and a cinema-inspired dining concept.
Part of the winter calendar at Msheireb Downtown Doha, Baraha Cinema is designed to offer accessible entertainment for residents and visitors alike. Building on the momentum of the previous three editions, this year’s event introduces a more immersive outdoor environment that reflects Msheireb’s deep-rooted connection to cinema culture.
Msheireb, the oldest district in Doha, holds a special place in the history of cinema in Qatar. During the 1960s, residents, including employees from the Dukhan oil fields, began screening films in homes and courtyards using 16mm projectors. These informal gatherings, with movies projected onto walls and watched by neighbours and families, marked some of the country’s earliest open-air cinema experiences. Over time, the practice expanded into organised community screenings at local clubs, eventually paving the way for commercial cinema activity in later decades.
Commenting on the announcement, Dr Hafiz Ali Abdulla, Senior Director of Corporate Communication at Msheireb Properties, said: “Now in its fourth edition, Baraha Cinema continues a tradition that is part of Msheireb’s story in Qatar’s cinema history. More than six decades ago, local residents brought families and neighbours together to watch films outdoors, creating some of the earliest open-air screenings in the country. This year, once again, we celebrate that spirit back with screenings that combine films, food, and community in the district where it all began. We hope visitors will enjoy the programme while experiencing a piece of Msheireb’s cultural heritage firsthand.”
Drawing inspiration from this heritage, Baraha Cinema brings a contemporary interpretation of open-air film viewing to its original setting. Audiences can enjoy a curated selection of popular family films under the stars, complemented by interactive activities and a signature “Taste Cinema Experience.” The culinary offering features gourmet meals presented on custom movie-themed plates, creating a multisensory dining and entertainment experience alongside comfortable seating and a welcoming, family-oriented atmosphere.
The 10-day programme combines classic adventures with modern animated favourites. Screenings include well-loved titles such as Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992) and Night at the Museum (2006), alongside animated films including Coco (2017), Meet the Robinsons (2007), Kung Fu Panda (2008), Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009), Alice in Wonderland (2010) and Hotel Transylvania (2012). The line-up also features newer releases such as The Garfield Movie (2024) and Lilo & Stitch (2025).
Tickets are offered across three categories, including standard access, a weekday VIP option with premium seating and refreshments, and a weekend VIP Food package that pairs screenings with a curated gourmet experience. Tickets are available for purchase through Msheireb Downtown Doha’s official website.
By bringing Baraha Cinema back to Barahat Msheireb, the initiative continues to support Msheireb Downtown Doha’s wider objective of hosting regular cultural and family-focused events. The outdoor screenings offer a chance for the community to gather in a familiar public space and enjoy a diverse film programme during the festive season, while reconnecting with a significant chapter of Qatar’s cultural history.
