This partnership aims to empower women in cinema by supporting 22 film projects by the students of Effat University.
The Red Sea Film Foundation has announced its collaboration with Effat University for the second consecutive year under the “Women in Cinema” programme, aimed at empowering budding female filmmakers.
This announcement came following the conclusion of the Effat University International Student Film Festival, where the partnership was formalised amidst the presence of esteemed figures, including Princess Luluwah Al Faisal, the General Supervisor of Effat University, and Dr Haifa Reda Jamal Al-Lail, the university’s President.
The ongoing partnership between the Red Sea Film Foundation and Effat University serves as a pivotal platform for aspiring female filmmakers within the university, providing them with the necessary support to materialise their artistic endeavours. Through the Red Sea Fund, a subsidiary of the Red Sea Film Foundation, a total of 22 diverse film projects will receive comprehensive support spanning from the development phase to the post-production stage, thereby enriching the overall quality of these projects.
Speaking about the partnership, Mohammed Al-Turki, CEO of Red Sea Film Foundation, said: “We take immense pride in our collaboration with Effat University as part of our ‘Women in Cinema’ initiative, which has significantly contributed to the support and empowerment of women on local, regional, and international fronts.” He emphasised the foundation’s commitment to nurturing promising female filmmakers, aligning with the ambitious national Vision 2030 to bolster the Kingdom’s cinematic landscape.
Dr Haifa added: “As we embark on the 11th edition of the Effat International Student Film Festival, we are delighted to join forces with the Red Sea Film Foundation in empowering women in cinema and showcasing the creativity of our students across various cinematic arts, including short films, animation, and documentaries.” She highlighted the collaborative effort to present their creativity to the broader community, underscoring this partnership as part of a series of initiatives aimed at empowering women in the film industry.
