Since its launch in October 2022, ANGOSAT-2 has enabled key milestones, including migrating local telecom operators to the satellite and delivering first-time connectivity through Conecta Angola.
Angola has unveiled a new national connectivity hub designed to widen access to communications services through the ANGOSAT-2, with a focus on supporting startups, internet service providers and telecommunications operators serving remote and underserved areas, reported Space in Africa.
The facility was inaugurated by the National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN) at the Satellite Control and Mission Centre in Funda. Conceived as a central interconnection point, the hub is intended to simplify both the technical and commercial pathways to accessing ANGOSAT-2 services, particularly for connectivity models built around Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) systems.
By offering direct access to the satellites capabilities, the hub aims to accelerate the rollout of connectivity solutions in regions where terrestrial infrastructure is limited or non-existent. GGPEN general manager Dr Zolana João said the initiative is designed to reduce entry barriers for smaller players by lowering technical complexity and streamlining commercial processes, enabling faster project deployment and broader network expansion.
The move reinforces the Angolan states commitment to democratising access to telecommunications by making ANGOSAT-2s capacity available in a more straightforward and transparent way to startups and telecom operators alike. Officials say this approach will help extend internet access to communities that have historically remained outside the reach of conventional networks.
Alongside the hubs inauguration, authorities also launched the Conecta Angola Commercial portal, a digital platform that centralises requests for satellite kits, services and capacity linked to ANGOSAT-2. The portal is designed to improve transparency, efficiency and speed in contracting services for private-sector users, while enabling companies to work in partnership with the government to reduce digital exclusion.
Through the platform, businesses can request equipment and services in an integrated manner, supporting efforts to bring connectivity to remote parts of the country. The new hub further strengthens the Conecta Angola Social and Commercial Programme, which currently operates 31 connectivity points and has already reached more than 366 citizens, many in areas that previously had no network access.
