Space42 and global satellite communications specialist Cobham Satcom have announced the completion of a full suite of advanced terminals designed for the Thuraya-4 Next Generation Satellite (T4-NGS). The expanded terminal portfolio enables broadband-grade L-band services for users across government, national security, maritime and commercial sectors.

The newly developed terminals, combined with the capabilities of the Thuraya-4 network, significantly enhance L-band mobility and mission performance, offering users greater access to high-throughput connectivity in demanding and remote operational environments.

Sulaiman Al Ali, CCO, Space42, said: “Rooted in our strategy to be a leader in Non-Terrestrial Networks, we are scaling Thuraya-4 services through an ecosystem of trusted technology partners with proven field expertise. Cobham Satcom’s leadership in secure mobile satellite systems enables customer access to the high-speed broadband and operational resilience that Thuraya-4 provides. We look forward to advancing our capabilities and maximizing existing coverage through the collaboration.”

Christophe Duret, CEO, Cobham Satcom, added: “Our new L-band terminals deliver the secure, resilient connectivity users need to operate effectively whether on the battlefield, in disaster zones or on the rough seas. With Thuraya-4 entering service, we’re enabling mission success for those who depend on reliable communications, whether in defense, humanitarian, commercial, or critical infrastructure applications.”

The comprehensive Cobham Satcom terminal portfolio ensures users can rely on broadband-grade L-band connectivity exceeding 1 Mbps, even in contested or remote environments. This milestone follows the start of commercial service on Space42’s next-generation mobile communications satellite, Thuraya-4, in November 2025. Amongst the largest and most advanced geostationary satellites in orbit, it delivers resilient coverage across more than 100 countries in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe.
Cobham Satcom’s Thuraya-4 terminal range meets the distinct demands of government, defense, maritime, and commercial users. All terminals are available in two variants: certified for military operation (MIL-810H, MIL-461) and high-end commercial-grade terminals (IP-68).

The comprehensive terminal range delivers broadband-grade L-band connectivity exceeding 1 Mbps, even in contested or remote locations. The announcement follows the launch of commercial services on Space42’s Thuraya-4 satellite in November 2025. One of the largest and most advanced geostationary satellites currently in orbit, Thuraya-4 provides resilient coverage across more than 100 countries spanning the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

Cobham Satcom’s Thuraya-4 terminals are tailored to meet the specific needs of government, defense, maritime and commercial users. Each terminal is available in two configurations: a military-certified version meeting MIL-810H and MIL-461 standards, and a high-end commercial-grade variant rated to IP-68.

The portfolio includes both Comms-on-the-Pause and Comms-on-the-Move systems. The IP NEO series represents backpack-portable Comms-on-the-Pause solutions, with the IP NEO M supporting secure, mission-critical military operations and the rugged IP NEO C aimed at commercial, humanitarian and civil use. Comms-on-the-Move offerings include the Orion NEO for maritime and offshore operations, supporting naval, coast guard and commercial vessels in remote or high-risk areas. The Voyager NEO provides connectivity for commercial vehicles while in transit, while the Commander terminal is a military-grade vehicular system certified to withstand extreme dust, rain and environmental conditions, ensuring continuous secure communications for troops on the move.

Built on 3GPP LTE standards, the Thuraya-4 network introduces advanced beam management and enhanced resilience in harsh operating conditions. It delivers reliable connectivity even during interference or infrastructure outages, while supporting video, real-time data and IoT applications to strengthen field operations. With default end-to-end AES-256 encryption and expanded coverage across sub-Saharan Africa, coastal Europe and the Middle East, Thuraya-4 extends communications far beyond the reach of terrestrial networks.
