The project forms part of Yahsats wider strategy to accelerate efforts to venture into emerging sectors with high growth potential.
Yahsat has initiated a Direct-to-Device (D2D) strategy aimed at enhancing global connectivity by directly enabling smartphone users and IoT devices worldwide to harness the capabilities of SpaceTech, irrespective of their location.
This strategic move marks a pivotal juncture in Yahsats journey, poised to redefine its growth trajectory while leveraging open technology standards to expand the horizons of connectivity. The initiative is primed to address the pressing global need for ubiquitous and reliable communication, further bolstering global endeavours to bridge the digital divide and connect billions of individuals and devices through multi-orbit satellite constellations.
Under the banner of Project SKY, Yahsat’s comprehensive strategy unfolds in two phases: Phase One and Phase Two.
In Phase One, slated for implementation this year, Yahsat aims to introduce voice and messaging capabilities, followed by texting and IoT functionalities on smartphones by 2025. Leveraging Yahsats Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites including T2, T3, and the forthcoming T4, this phase is expected to commence with the launch of T4 later this year.
Phase Two, dubbed Project BlueStar, is envisioned to propel Yahsat towards enabling full Direct-to-Device connectivity through a scalable and sustainable satellite network.
The two-phase strategy encompasses three key applications: voice, texting, and data. Yahsat is set to offer a sneak peek of its D2D portfolio comprising cutting-edge products and solutions during its participation at the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona later this month.
Ali Al Hashemi, Group Chief Executive Officer of Yahsat, said: We are excited to launch our D2D strategy to revolutionise our industry by providing billions of people, organizations and businesses across various sectors with seamless, reliable and efficient access to connectivity. This strategy is a critical and significant part of Yahsats wider growth strategy. We developed our D2D strategy Project SKY, by carefully examining our strengths and capabilities and leveraging our expertise to capitalize on evolving market conditions.
Yahsats robust D2D strategy reflects its proactive stance towards adapting to shifting market trends and emerging technologies. Positioned to deliver high-quality connectivity, the company aims to empower various services such as eLearning and Tele-medicine in unserved/underserved communities through its existing and planned satellite capabilities.
With D2D connectivity more people than ever before, especially in remote areas, will be able to gain access to a whole host of services that will positively transform their lives. We are relentlessly working to solidify Yahsats leadership in the industry, unlocking lucrative growth opportunities. It is an inspiring moment for us, especially since we are also beginning a new chapter in our journey through the potential merger with Bayanat to create a global AI-powered SpaceTech champion, Ali Al Hashemi concluded.
