Moroccan comic artist and film director Hicham Lasri is gearing up for the world premiere of his satirical dark comedy, Moroccan Badass Girl, at the Marrakech International Film Festival, scheduled to run from November 24 to December 2.
The film, a standout in the festival’s Panorama of Moroccan Cinema Section, is slated to screen on Friday, December 1, at 9 PM, with Lasri and the cast, including Fadoua Taleb, Salah Bensalah, Malek Akhmiss, and Lamrani Karam, in attendance.
Post-screening, a Q&A session will provide an opportunity for a deeper exploration of the film’s narrative and an insight into its cinematic brilliance.
Moroccan Badass Girl unfolds the story of Cathy as she approaches her 30th birthday, navigating the harsh realities of her life. A victim of mistreatment from her parents, fiancé, boss, and society at large, Cathy’s life takes an unfortunate turn on what becomes the worst day of her existence.
Set against the sardonic backdrop of Casablanca, the film immerses Cathy in a dark and twisted comedy that shapes her future. Determined to embark on a fresh start, she sets out on a journey to immigrate abroad, only to encounter unexpected obstacles along the way.
Scripted and directed by Hicham Lasri, Moroccan Badass Girl features Fadoua Taleb, Salah Bensalah, Malek Akhmiss, and Karam Lamrani. MAD Solutions has taken on the film’s worldwide distribution.
Notably, the movie secured funding from the Carthage and Malmö film festivals, part of a workshop conducted during the El Gouna film festival.
