The commission’s participation highlights Saudi Arabia’s dedication to preserving film heritage and fostering cultural exchange through cinema.
The Saudi Film Commission has taken part in the International Classic Film Market at the Lumière Film Festival 2025, held from October 11 to 19 in Lyon, France. Its participation underscores Saudi Arabia’s growing commitment to preserving cinematic heritage and promoting cultural exchange through the art of film, according to a report by Saudi Press Agency.
Founded by the Institut Lumière, the Lumière Film Festival stands as one of the world’s premier celebrations of classic cinema. Each year, it draws filmmakers, historians and film lovers from around the globe to honour the legacy of cinema through restored masterpieces and rediscovered classics.
As part of the festival, the Marché International du Film Classique (MIFC) serves as a vital global hub for professionals dedicated to film archiving, restoration, and distribution. The market attracts experts from more than 30 countries, including distributors, film associations, rights holders and restoration laboratories.
Within this event, the Saudi Film Commission’s pavilion will spotlight the Kingdom’s growing efforts in film preservation, restoration and digitisation. The pavilion will feature a showcase of restored Saudi film classics, offering visitors a closer look at the nation’s ongoing work to protect its cinematic legacy and ensure that its stories are passed on to future generations.
Through its participation in the Lumière Film Festival, the Film Commission reaffirms its mission to preserve Saudi Arabia’s film heritage while fostering international collaboration and cultural dialogue through cinema.
