JAX Film Studios features two 1,500-sqm soundstages, a VIP lounge, a modern screening room and fully equipped production offices.
The Saudi Film Commission (SFC), one of 11 sector-specific commissions under the Saudi Ministry of Culture, has announced the launch of a state-of-the-art virtual production soundstage at JAX Film Studios, the Kingdom’s new flagship production complex in Riyadh. Designed by global visual effects leader Pixomondo and powered by Sony’s advanced VERONA LED technology, the facility marks a major leap in Saudi Arabia’s filmmaking infrastructure, positioning the country as a hub for world-class productions.
The newly operational virtual production volume at JAX Film Studios features 2,720 Sony VERONA Crystal LED panels, using Sony’s top-tier 2.3mm pixel pitch technology. The volume’s impressive dimensions, 23 meters in diameter, 27.5 meters in depth, and 10 meters in height, allow for high-resolution, photorealistic environments that meet the demands of major Hollywood projects. The space integrates camera tracking, real-time rendering and in-camera visual effects (VFX) workflows, offering filmmakers a seamless, fully integrated production experience.
In addition to the virtual production stage, JAX Film Studios provides a full range of premium production facilities, including two 1,500-sqm soundstages, a private VIP lounge, a cutting-edge cinema screening room and fully equipped production offices and prep spaces. The complex has been designed to deliver an end-to-end environment for filmmakers and crews, ensuring a smooth production process from concept to completion.
Abdullah Al-Qahtani, CEO of Saudi Film Commission, said: “JAX Film Studios represents a new landmark for film production in Saudi Arabia. The investment in world-class virtual production infrastructure is a key milestone in realizing the Kingdom’s ambition to build a dynamic, globally competitive film industry. It reflects our commitment to empowering Saudi and international filmmakers with the technology, facilities, and partnerships they need to tell their stories at the highest standard.”
Pixomondo, the Oscar-winning VFX and virtual production studio known for its work on House of the Dragon, The Penguin and Chief of War, brings global expertise and cutting-edge techniques to the project.
Jonny Slow, CEO of Pixomondo, commented: “The unique combination of Sony and PXO’s innovations and expertise will make Riyadh a focal point for virtual production in the region.
