The second edition of Sharjah International Childrens Film Festival (SICFF) will take place from October 19-24. Organised by FUNN, a Sharjah-based foundation for promoting media arts for and among children and youth in the UAE, the six-day festival is the first of its kind in the region.
The first edition of the festival showcased 78 films from 32 countries, with several local and regional filmmakers as well as films from Latin America, Europe, Africa, and the Far East. Film screenings were held in different venues across Sharjah, Al Dhaid and Khorfakkan and attracted a large number of children and adults.
Director of FUNN and Director of Sharjah International Childrens Film Festival, Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, said: The Sharjah International Childrens Film Festival aims to grow childrens awareness and creative skills in all aspects of media art and develop their abilities in all basic motion picture techniques. The festival serves as an ideal opportunity to support local and Arab filmmaking talents and to benefit from experience of the worlds top childrens film industries.
The festival brings international films and new media content. It exposes children to worlds cultures, promotes coexistence, and shows children how people from different cultures, religions, and backgrounds live together. It fosters local film makers and motivates them to produce films for children and young adults in the UAE.
