The Abu Dhabi-headquartered broadcaster celebrated its 10th anniversary last week and announced plans to invest further in digital initiatives as well as in a new business news platform.
Sky News Arabia (SNA), a joint venture between International Media Investments and UK network Sky News, announced plans to launch a new business news platform with a dedicated website and social media channels offering the latest in business news and analysis. The announcement was made alongside the broadcaster’s completion of ten years since its launch on May 6, 2012. The business news initiative is part of the news channel’s plans to invest in areas where it sees more content consumption from its viewers.
A statement from the Abu Dhabi entity included some impressive figures on the growth of its digital news platform with more than 37m social media followers and more than 5bn views of its digital content in 2021.
“Over the last 10 years, we have established ourselves as a leading news platform and cemented our reputation for delivering high-quality news in an informative and efficient way to Arabic-speaking audiences around the world,” stated Nart Bouran, CEO of Sky News Arabia.
“Never before have audiences needed news platforms to keep them informed and safe. We have played a crucial role in delivering accurate information to keep audiences informed and up to date.”
During its tenure, the news platform has featured well-known Arabic-speaking news anchors to spearhead its content including political satirist, Nadim Koteich and prominent journalist and talk show host, Giselle Khoury, as well as Emirati presenters, Faisal Bin Huraiz, Majed Al Farsi, Mousa Al Baloushi and Maitha Sabah.
The news platform has also announced ambitious plans for the future with a big digital vision in the offing. It has announced plans to invest further in digital growth. It hopes to leverage new technologies and create more AR and VR content with the aim of bringing news stories to life for viewers.
Tracing some of its milestones, Sky News Arabia spoke about the success of the academy, which has delivered more 70 training courses since its launch in 2021. Since then, 350 young professionals have graduated from the academy.
