The film Son-Mother/ Pesar-Madar, co-produced by Kaveh Farnam, CEO of Dubai-based distributor Advanced Media will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this September.
Directed by Mahnaz Mohammadi, Son-Mother follows the story of a single working mother of two.
Commenting on the nature of the project, Director Mohammadi said: “The film is based around tradition and everyday life. My friend Mohammad Rasoulof wrote the story, and it took us five years to turn it into a film. The tragedy is what defines a lot of people’s lives in the Middle East, each of us has experienced or keeps experiencing tragic events. Religion and tradition play a big role in that, with people being very orthodox about them. In Son – Mother, I deal with the question of what each of us is able to do in order to stay away from tragedy.”
The film is a collaboration between Kaveh Farnam (Europe Media Nest), Mohammad Rasoulof, Farzad Pak (Filminiran).
Producer Farnam has co-produced A Man Of Integrity directed by Rasoulof. The film was a winner of Uncertain Regards, Cannes film festival 2017.
Farnam who is also CEO of Europe Media Nest said in a press statement that the Czech-based company had been trying to “build a bridge between Czech and Iranian cinema in the long term.”
Farnam also connected the film crew with Magiclab, a major Prague-based post-production studio which was responsible for the colour grading and VFX. The sound was mastered in the Bystrouška studio in Prague as well.
His other productions include A Very Ordinary Citizen (2015) which bagged the Sepanta award at the IFF San Francisco. Farnam’s Like My Name Pegah (2018) directed by Soudabeh Beizaee was awarded the Best Documentary of the year by Iran Cinema House. Leakage (2018) directed by Suzan Iravanian was introduced at Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2018 in a Works in Progress section and premiered in Berlinale 2019 Forum section.
The festival runs September 5 to September 15.
