Ahuja will also continue to oversee the company’s TV business in his elevated role.
Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) has announced the promotion of Ravi Ahuja, currently Chairman of Global Television Studios and Corporate Development, to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer of the entire studio, effective April 1.
This promotion marks a significant milestone as Ahuja becomes the first to hold this newly established position within the studio. Ahuja’s elevation suggests a strategic move towards a potential leadership transition following the tenure of Tony Vinciquerra as Chairman and CEO, who is not departing the studio in the immediate future.
In addition to his new role, Ahuja will retain his current chairman position at Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and will continue reporting to Vinciquerra. Ahuja’s background includes a tenure at Fox Networks, where he served alongside Vinciquerra. Joining Fox in 2007 as CFO of the Fox Networks Group, Ahuja played a pivotal role in overseeing finance, strategy, and business development across various business units.
Under Ahuja’s leadership, Sony Pictures Television has witnessed robust growth across its divisions, significantly expanding the studio’s global production capabilities and more than doubling the number of shows produced. SPT now boasts an extensive portfolio of scripted, unscripted, kids’ programmes, and game shows worldwide, reflecting Ahuja’s strategic content approach.
Notable successes during Ahuja’s tenure include hit franchises like The Boys, Outlander, and Cobra Kai, along with successful collaborations with PlayStation Productions, resulting in highly acclaimed adaptations such as The Last of Us and Twisted Metal. SPT continues to innovate with upcoming projects like God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn.
The studio’s achievements have been recognised with 53 Primetime Emmy nominations last year, including multiple Outstanding Drama Series nominees. Notably, Jeopardy! secured its fourth consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Game Show, while The Night Agent emerged as the top original on Netflix globally.
Ahuja’s strategic growth initiatives have also expanded SPT’s footprint in the industry, highlighted by acquisitions such as Industrial Media (now SPT – Nonfiction), Pixomondo, and Bad Wolf, positioning the studio for continued success in the evolving entertainment landscape.
