A Moroccan film will compete in the La Cinef category for the first time ever.
Cannes Film Festival has announced its lineup for its Short Film Palme d’Or and La Cinef categories, which will run from May 16-27.
For its 26th edition, La Cinef selected among 2000 films submitted by film schools from all around the world, 14 short fiction and two animated short films, among which 10 films are directed by women and seven films by men. 13 countries from four continents are represented including Morocco, for the first time in selection.
The Moroccan entry is the 13 mins film Ayyur by Zineb Wakrim from the ÉSAV (l’École Supérieure des Arts Visuels) in Marrakech.
Egyptian short film Al-Toraa’ (The Call of the Brook), directed and written by Jad Chahine, will be screened in the La Cinef section of the Cannes Film Festival. A 12-minute film stars Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Heba Khayal and Sarah Shedid and follows the story of a young boy who visits a cursed brook which changes the trajectory of his life.
From Iran comes Daroone Poust (Inside the Skin), a 16 mins film co-directed by Shafagh Abosaba & Maryam Mahdiye at the Karnameh Film School, a cultural institution based in Tehran which boasts a current and past instructor distinguished names of Iranian cinema like Kiarostami and Asghar Farhadi.
The Jury chaired by Ildikó Enyedi will give out three La Cinef awards, during a ceremony that will be followed by the screening of the awarded films, Thursday, May 25, in the Buñuel theatre.
La Cinef is a section of the CFF dedicated to discovering new talent, founded in 1998 with a mission to inspire and support a new generation of international filmmakers.
