Sabry dedicated the nomination “to the women of Gaza , the most resilient , brave , and enduring women on Earth.”
Tunisian actress Hend Sabry has been named on BBC’s 100 Women 2024, an annual list of 100 inspiring and influential women. Sabry is renowned for her roles in Arab films and shows including the hit Netflix series Finding Ola.
BBC described Sabry ‘as one of the most famous women in Arab cinema’ in its listing. In 2019, Sabry made history as the first Arab woman to serve as a judge at the Venice Film Festival. She also gained attention for her resignation as a UN Goodwill Ambassador in November this year, protesting the use of starvation as a weapon of war in Gaza.
Responding to the news on her Instagram page, Sabry dedicated the nomination “to the women of Gaza , the most resilient , brave , and enduring women on Earth.”
Other women featured on the list include Egyptian fem-tech entrepreneur Nour Emam, astronaut Sunita Williams, rape survivor Gisèle Pelicot, actress Sharon Stone, Olympic athletes Rebeca Andrade and Allyson Felix, singer Raye, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad, visual artist Tracey Emin, climate campaigner Adenike Oladosu, and writer Cristina Rivera Garza.
Launched in 2013, BBC’s annual 100 Women series highlights influential women from around the world, showcasing their achievements and impact in various fields.
