The sixth edition of the ASBU BroadcastPro Selevision Awards concluded late Tuesday evening.
The sixth edition of the ASBU BroadcastPro Selevision Awards concluded late Tuesday evening. The awards evening rewarded industry specialists from the MENA broadcast industry in both traditional and new media space. We had 18 awards in creative and technical categories in broadcast, two satellite awards as well as four awards by our title sponsor Selevision to recognise the contribution of some of the key industry players.
The evening started with BroadcastPro MEs sister publication SatellitePro ME awards. The first award of the evening was Satellite Operator of the Year which was given to Intelsat. The second satellite award was for Best Satellite Solutions Provider, which went to du.
These were followed by Selevision Awards. The first award from Selevision was given to Ahmed AlShugairi of Aram TV for his show Qumra, which is the first interactive programme of its kind on any Arabic TV Channel. The award was to acknowledge the role that Qumra played in spreading awareness among Arab youth about social issues.
Talal Awamleh of Arab Telemedia Group was given an award for elevating historical TV shows with premium 4K content and subtitling Arabic content for a global audience on iTunes.
The third award was given to the show Sadma, which was the highest rated show during Ramadan this year. The show used shock therapy, to examine humanity and enlighten Arab audiences about issues in Arab society. It was the first show of its kind to capture audience reactions and reenact scenarios while promoting important Arab social values to Arab audiences. Tariq Al Ibrahim, Channel Manager of MBC1 and MBC Drama received the award on behalf of Fadi Ismail of O3 Productions.
Safa Abu Rizk of Beelink received a special Award for Excellence for her TV drama, Grand Hotel, which stood out for its scenery and costumes, capturing the magic and elegance of the period.
The Selevision Awards were followed by Broadcast Awards.
