Axon showcases the evolution of AVB and ‘the end of SDI’

At IBC 2013, Axon, the broadcast infrastructure, monitoring and control specialist, will demo the next chapter in AVB (Audio Video Bridging) technology – an open audio/video networking standard established by the IEEE. Following its widely acclaimed introduction at NAB, Axon will be demonstrating new potential of AVB technology, with the launch of a new product line for seamless, end-to-end live audio and video production with integrated monitoring, management and protection. The live AVB demo will take place from an OB van on Axon’s stand B21 in hall 10.

Axon will also launch a new solution to monitor and control broadcast infrastructures; a new live production tool SynLive; and new 4K conversion modules for its Synapse product range.

At the heart of broadcast infrastructure

‘Based on standard ethernet  technology, AVB will help transform the way broadcasters manage and deliver live production video content, making the design and build of a studio or facility easier, more flexible and more cost-effective,’ said Peter Schut, CTO, Axon. ‘We’ll see a move away from one-way, single-purpose and point-to-point infrastructures, which will ultimately bring an end to SDI. The simple ability to have one connection that can carry multiple audio and video streams, control and metadata for live production will be game changing.’

At the heart of broadcast control

Also debuting at IBC will be Cerebrum – Axon’s new solution for simultaneous monitoring and control of all elements of the broadcaster’s infrastructure. Cerebrum will target all applications where some form of broadcast facility monitor or control is required, and bring together all the requirements for a safe and flexible broadcast operation.

At the heart of live production

With changes in live production technology rapidly evolving, Axon will showcase its new live production tool SynLive. Based on Axon’s Synapse range of products, SynLive has been designed for small, live production environments to provide broadcasters with a cost-effective and turnkey offering. Broadcasters will have the flexibility to expand their infrastructures over time as SynLive can be configured to enable more features to be added all the way up to a 4Wire 4K compatible system.
