Grass Valley has showcased an end-to-end UHD/4K, NativeIP, and 3G HD workflow at the 2023 IBC Show. This comprehensive offering caters specifically to sports production in various environments, including venues, the cloud, OB trucks, REMI IP setups, and hybrid configurations.
Speaking about the solutions, Louis Hernandez Jr, CEO of Grass Valley, said: “To catch every moment of game action, you need powerful, reliable gear designed for today’s demanding live sports environment. As the industry transitions from SDI to IP, we at Grass Valley understand the needs of our high-value sports customers, whether they’re producing live events from control rooms, OB trucks, REMI remote IP configurations, and increasingly, live OTT streaming. We’re addressing industry demand by delivering powerful, reliable advanced solutions with familiar control interfaces, custom-tailored workflows, and the freedom to work from anywhere as an integrated creative team.”
At the IBC Show, Grass Valley has also demonstrated support for traditional hardware-based facilities, featuring the updated 4-stripe Kayenne production switcher control surface driving a full raster 4K 2160P K-Frame XP video processing engine. This industry-standard K-Frame XP is capable of processing various IP formats, SDI video sources, or a combination of both.
The versatility extends to Grass Valley’s cloud-based AMPP platform, designed to complement on-premises hardware. AMPP provides an easily scalable, unified workflow accessible to any member of the sports production crew from any connected device or location.
For live sports production, Grass Valley offers comprehensive solutions tailored to diverse production workflows and budgets. The debut of the new LDX-C150 broadcast camera is a highlight, condensing the functionality of the full-size LDX-150 Native IP/UHD camera into a compact form factor. The C150 offers superior NativeIP and UHD HDR imaging, with speed modes of 3X UHD and 6X 1080P/60 HDR, along with support for ST2110 and JPEG-XS compression directly from the camera head. It also supports connectivity to the camera base station for backward compatibility and is suited for applications such as SKYCAM, Steadicam, beauty shots, ultra slomo, and unmanned setups.
Another feature is Grass Valley’s LiveTouch X replay system, supporting 16+ sources and capable of running on standard COTS servers in the truck, control room, or in the cloud on AWS or other cloud-based computing services. When integrated with AMPP, it offers reliability and pay-as-you-go SaaS flexibility, allowing replay operators to work from anywhere in the connected world.
Grass Valley’s product portfolio includes the upgraded Framelight X media asset management system, featuring a native MOS Clip List Player for playout driven by MOS-compatible systems like newsroom computer systems (NRCS). Part of the AMPP cloud-based ecosystem, Framelight X empowers customers to produce and distribute content from anywhere, making it suitable for remote sports production and collaboration.
