AIWFF to screen 34 short and feature films in sixth edition

Aswan International Women Film Festival 2022 will screen 12 feature and 22 short films in their respective competitions, which will take place from February 23 to 28, 2022 in Aswan.

The films to be screened within the International Competition for Feature Films represent 17 countries, which include As in Heaven (Denmark), El Planeta (USA, Spain), Good Mother (France), Secret Name (France), Farha (Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sweden), Quareer (Saudi Arabia), The New Girl (Argentina), Rehana (Bangladesh, Singapore), Holy Emy (Greece, France, USA), Peacock’s Paradise (Italy, Germany), Souls in Transit (Iraq, Switzerland), and Lingui (Chad, France, Germany, Belgium).

Headed by Romanian actress Cristina Flutur, the all-female jury for the International Competition for Feature Films includes Egyptian actress Basma, Nigerian director and producer Rahmatou Keita, German critic and programmer Ingrid Beerbaum and French actress and director Marilyne Canto.

The International Competition for Short Films will screen 24 films from 22 countries. The film includes 1+1 (Egypt), What We Don’t Know About Mariam (Egypt), Microbus (Egypt, USA), Sham Ennessim (USA, Egypt), Phoenix (Tunisia), Jeans (Morocco), The Sea Bride (Bahrain), August Sky (Brazil, Iceland), Cold Beds (France), Deaf (Spain), Good Thanks, You? (UK), Love Stories on the Move (Romania), The Letter Room (USA), Five Tiger (South Africa), Silent Night (Russia), The Son (Russia), Frimas (Canada), Intercom 15 (Romania), The Girl Who Comes on Thursdays (Spain), Trumpets in the Sky (Palestine, Lebanon, France, Belgium), Butterfly Jam (France, Taiwan), Elena (Lithuania, France, Croatia), Steakhouse (Slovenia, Germany, France), and The Boob Fairy (France).

The jury of this section will be Saudi writer, director and critic Hana Abdullah, German curator and culture events manager Karin Schyle alongside Egyptian actress Shery Adel.

This year, the film festival has decided to grant the Isis Achievement Award to veteran Egyptian actress Sawsan Badr in recognition of her long artistic career and her contribution to the Egyptian and Arab cinema screen.
