During CABSAT, twofour54 tadreeb is offering a series of free workshops delivered in conjunction with the BBC Academy.
On day one of the three day exhibit, we attended the workshop on Flexible tools for Production by Andy Wilson, head of BBC Center Technology who shared insights on how to save money and get more technology in the hands of your programme makers.
Wilson explained how one could appropriately invest in technologies as well as simultaneously reduce the cost. He brought to notice how during festive seasons the consumer technology has an increase in its sales for tablets, which are mainly aimed at children.
The core element of the workshop was how certain organizations have given their staff the option of using their own devices or using that of the organization. Wilson mentions this as a bring your own device phenomenon and talks about the various challenges faced involving a personal device.
The common view of individuals about the use of an iPhone and an iPad are that its mainly used for checking mails or playing, the game angry birds. The speaker also believes that these devices can be used beyond and to its maximum potential, also mentioning how they can do the work of a BlackBerry, laptop, television, radio and many other devices.
Andy Wilson also talks about the software called LUCCI LIVE, wherein an individual or a reporter can use their iPhone to update any current or ongoing situation by being as close to the venue as possible, without having to carry any large equipment. This also plays a major role in safe guarding of an individuals life in crucial times.
Overall, the workshop highlighted the importance of using the right equipment, at the right time and by combining technologies so that they could be brought together for efficient use.
