BroadcastPro Middle East hosted a roundtable on May 13, 2015 at Conrad Dubai to discuss the various facets of Media Asset Management or MAM and its importance in the broadcast ecosystem. The roundtable, which was sponsored by Avid, was attended by technology heads of the regions leading broadcast entities. The discussion was moderated by Peter Ennis, Director, Strategic Solutions, Avid Technology.
The panel included: Saleh Lootah, Deputy General Manager and Omar Alzoubi, Senior Manager – Engineeing Systems at Dubai Media Inc.; Dominic Baillie, CTO at Sky News Arabia; Peter Van Dam, Senior Manager OB planning at ADMC – LIVE HD production and facilities (Abu Dhabi Media); Bassem Maher – Takhayal Entertainment FZ LLC.; Robert Taylor, Programme Manager for the Al Jazeera Workplace Transformation Project at Al Jazeera ; Mark Billinge, CTO at OSN and Laurent Tescari, Director Product Development at e-vision at Etisalat. Avid also had representation at the roundtable with Jan Lange, Sales Director Central EMEA and Craig Dywer, Senior Director Global Centre of Excellence at Avid Technology.
The talking points of the discussion included the definition of MAM and what it can do for a media organisation. The industry leader looked at some of the pain points associated with MAM implementation. Some of the challenges of integrating it into existing workflows were discussed and the lack of a good user-friendly interface. The discussion also touched upon how CTOs can justify the investment in MAM. The broadcasters were asked to speak about their MAM journey and their experiences with it. Also discussed was how companies can manage change, the various challenges that organisations face when deploying new systems and how they can be countered. In the end, Ennis asked what can MAM vendors do differently to help broadcasters solve business challenges more effectively.
The roundtable discussion will be extensively covered in the next issue of BroadcastPro ME.
