Enyi Omeruah and Stephen Strachan, as producers, will helm the development process at EK 782 Films, while Eno Udo-Affia takes on the task of writing the screenplay.
EK 782 Films, a film production company, has acquired the film and television rights to Adesuwa O’man Nwokedi’s acclaimed novel, The Marriage Class, published in 2023. This marks the commencement of development for a six-part drama series, with Lagos-based screenwriter, Eno Udo-Affia, at the helm of adaptation.
Founded by Enyi Omeruah and Stephen Strachan, EK 782 Films represents a fresh addition to the production landscape, operating between the United Arab Emirates and Nigeria. The company’s core mission revolves around the creation, financing, and dissemination of high-quality cinematic and television content that resonates with the cultural movements emerging from cities such as Lagos, Johannesburg, Dubai, and Riyadh.
The Marriage Class unfolds its narrative against the backdrop of Lagos, Nigeria, delving into the intertwined lives of several couples who undergo marriage counselling sessions before embarking on their journey to the altar. As they navigate through their relationships, a pivotal question looms over them: “Will they or won’t they?”
Eno Udo-Affia, fresh from her role as head writer for an eight-episode drama with a European broadcaster, shared her excitement about adapting The Marriage Class. She emphasised the novel’s exploration of marriage as a critical societal issue, particularly resonant in Nigeria, where marital unions hold immense cultural significance. Udo-Affia remarked: “The characters and situations jumped out at me, especially as a woman. I identified with all of them. We’ve all seen friends and relatives in tough situations where the red flags are obvious and you’re questioning everything. I’m honoured to be adapting this amazing book and can’t wait to see this as a TV series.”
Enyi Omeruah and Stephen Strachan, the producers behind EK 782 Films, will spearhead the development process, ensuring the seamless transition of The Marriage Class from page to screen. Meanwhile, Eno Udo-Affia is represented by ChudorMMC, a literary management agency with bases in London and Lagos.
