The third edition of the DIFF screening series, titled Halloween Fright Nights at The Pavilion, is back with a twist offering chills and thrills in three consecutive nights of horror, starting Monday, October 29h with a Q&A session with Bahraini filmmaker Isa Swain.
There will also be prizes for best costumes and trick or treat bags for horror-lovers who embrace the spirit of Halloween!
DIFF’s Artistic Director, Masoud Amralla al Ali, said: We invite our Film Buzz audience to join us on the darker side of cinema this month. Horror is an often overlooked genre, with a myriad of sub-genres, each with its own rules and fan followings. Dealing with the shadow side of the human experience, horror films use all of the cinematic tools to provide a very specific viewing experience that, when done properly, can never be forgotten. Any programme of cinema appreciation cannot exclude this vast body of work.
The programme kicks off with a double-header on Monday, October 29th at 7:30pm when Bahraini director Isa Swain will be in attendance to introduce his dystopic zombie short Envy the Dead, a popular choice at the Gulf Film Festival earlier this year. Audiences will then continue on in the post-apocalypse vein with a Middle East premiere of Stake Land, a horrific romp through vampire-infested territory with a rag-tag band of survivors. October 30th brings The Changeling, a classic haunted-house film from the 1980’s, and on October 31st, rom-zom-com Shaun of the Dead will have audiences rolling in the aisles and shivering in their seats as a lone slacker takes on the undead to save his English country town.
Film Buzz takes place on the last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each month, with the exception of December when the film screenings will take place on December 17-19. Entry is free and operates on a first come, first served basis. The Pavilion can accommodate 60 people per screening, so punctuality is essential.
September’s programme was entitled ‘Focus on Iran,’ and presented three feature films from that country, with directors Homayoun Assadian and Morteza Farshbaf in attendance for a Q & A session.
Film Buzz screenings take place at 7:30pm on the last Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each month. Entrance to the screenings is free of charge and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The Pavilion can accommodate up to 60 people per screening.
