A video competition has been launched to enable participants to express their love for the UAE by sending entries that celebrate the country’s spirit and character, in time for its historic 40 year national day anniversary this year.
The competition, launched by the New York Film Academy Abu Dhabi, and Tempo, has attracted considerable interest, especially among the youth.
It calls for the entry of short videos of poetry, images, skits, in all languages that focus on the UAE. The competition has been running through summer, but the deadline for entries has been extended to 20 September.
Speaking about the entries received so far, Imad Deiratany, development manager at the New York Film Academy stated:The response has been terrific, and we are encouraged by the amount of interest received from young people and creative professionals who are working on producing their own videos and coming together as small production units. Weve had to extend the competition deadline because of the overwhelming response and to give entrants more time.
He explained that the original prize for the first entry category was a four week course, and has been expanded to a 12 week evening film making course. The second entry category, entitled Me and My School, remains the same, and offers schools a chance to participate. The prize for the winner in the school category grants the student and his class a workshop in filmmaking. A jury of film experts and directors will announce the winner by 22 September in time for the start of the course on 25 September, he added.
Sana Bagersh, Managing Editor of Tempo stated: Were happy to be running this competition because it provides a creative outlet for the community, and we believe this year which is the 40th anniversary of the UAEs union is significant and provides us the opportunity to express our voices in appreciation of this gracious land.
Were happy to partner with New York Film Academy Abu Dhabi in order to provide the winner the unique opportunity to learn at a quality film production institute, and to ensure that the judging of the videos is done by a qualified panel of experts.
