The number of High Definition channels is on the rise in the MENA region
The Arab world presently has 212 HD channels based on the last count in May 2016 by the Arab Advisors Group. The report states that this region had 195 HD channels in March 2015.
The report covers seven satellite operators that target the Arab World including Arabsat, Eshailsat, Eutelsat, Gulfsat, Nilesat, Noorsat, and Yahlive, and the number of HD and 4K channels broadcast on each satellite platform. In the report, Arab Advisors Group provides a comparison between the satellites, and a projection of the number of HD and satellite TV channels serving the Arab World.
The number of HD channels constituted around 18% of the total number of satellite channels carried by the seven satellite platforms covering the region.
Arab Advisors research and analysis shows that the number of HD TV channels has grown by around 9% between March 2015 and May 2016, Noor Asmar, Arab Advisors’ Senior Research Analyst wrote in the report.
By May 2016, Arabsat had the largest number of HD channels with 83 channels available on the platform. Nilesat followed. Ms. Asmar added.
