Image Nation, in partnership with TCA Abu Dhabi, is hosting a series of film screenings every alternate Sunday, and the next one is scheduled for December 6 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi at 7.30 pm. Entry is free. Titled The 7th Art, the programme is curated by veteran film historian Peter Scarlet.
This programme was launched in the beginning of October with the first two episodes of the documentary The Story of Film: An Odyssey. This week, Peter will screen the fifth and sixth chapters of the 15-episode documentary. The director, Mark Cousins, allows the audience to witness the evolution of international cinema through each episode. The series unravels the elements that turned cinema into a multi-billion dollar industry, with a guided tour of the greatest movies ever made.
Episode 5 of The Story of Film: An Odyssey shows how the trauma of war made cinema more daring. This episode starts in Italy and moves to Hollywood, where the viewer is taken from Orson Welles to the darkening of American film and the drama of the McCarthy era.
We travel back into The 50s in Episode 6, visiting countries like Egypt, India, China, Mexico, Britain and Japan. Mark Cousins takes us on a journey through films that were filled with rage and passion, featuring interviews with people who worked with the likes of Satyajit Ray.
Film enthusiasts have the opportunity of participating in a post-screening discussion with Peter Scarlet at FANR Restaurant at Manarat Al Saadiyat.
Interested people may e-mail manaratalsaadiyat@tcaabudhabi.ae to reserve a seat.
